The "Total Energy" workshop focuses on the most recent developments in the field of electronic structure methods and is held traditionally in Trieste every two years, since 1987. It has become one of the most important regular events of the international ab-initio electronic-structure community, with up to 300 participants in the last years. The workshop focuses on electronic-structure methods and their applications to a steadily increasing range of materials and systems. The workshop is structured in thematic sessions in which the oral talks are by invitation only, and are selected by the scientific committee few months before the event so as to favor the presentation (and discussion) of particularly timely topics (there are no parallel sessions). In addition, this workshop series is characterized by a vibrant tradition of poster sessions at which the remaining participants, and junior participants in particular, can present their work.
