16th ETSF Workshop on Electronic Excitations: Bridging theory and experiment
Location: "Torino Incontra" Conference Center in Turin, Italy
Organisers
Since its first edition in 1995, the ETSF (former Nanoquanta) workshop has provided a precious opportunity for meeting and discussion within the theoretical spectroscopy community. While the first series of workshops focused on and succeeded in the effort of establishing links between theoreticians of different communities interested in the calculation of many-body effects in electronic spectra, the latest meetings showed an increasing involvement also of experimentalists. This is due both to the increasing ability of ab-initio techniques in tackling realistic problems (simulations of defects, disordered systems, interfaces, finite temperature effects are some of the issues that nowadays can be addressed, including many-body effects) and to the intrinsic nature of the ETSF which is meant to be an infrastructure providing its expertise to users, very often experimentalists. This is why, besides addressing, as usual, recent methodological advances (e.g. in many-body perturbation theory (GW, BSE), time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT), quantum chemical methods or quantum transport), the 2011 edition of the workshop will point to a stronger and deeper exchange and dialogue with the community of experimentalists. To reach this goal more experimentalists than usual will be invited. Each session, devoted to a kind of spectroscopy, will include invited contributions from both experimentalists and theoreticians, and be followed by a round-table to maximize the interchanges between the two communities.
