The MolSim-2016 school will provide training in the field of simulation techniques for the study of many-particle (molecular) systems. It targets doctoral ad post-doctoral researchers, and advanced master students, who want to learn these techniques to study topics in physics, chemistry or biology. The content constitutes a recap of the statistical mechanics relevant for molecular simulation, and will subsequently cover basic and advanced simulation techniques. These including Monte Carlo, molecular dynamics, free energy calculations, rare events, coarse graining. The theory and techniques covered in the lectures will be illustrated by illustrative examples of present day research.
The school will have as special topics which will be announced soon.
The school is an integrated program of lectures and hands-on exercises. The book ``Understanding Molecular Simulation'' by Frenkel and Smit will provide the basis of the lectures. This will be supplemented by handouts and copies of the lecture slides.
Hands-on computer exercises are an essential part of the school and will allow the participants to apply the theory of the lectures in practice, using specially designed examples. The exercises classes will be tutored by experienced Ph.D., postdoctoral and staff researchers.
There is ample experience in practical aspects of the organizing the course for up to 80 participants. We ask you to bring your own laptop. Lectures rooms are at the local institutions (UvA Science Park) in Amsterdam. Participants from outside the Netherlands will be housed at the StayOkay Zeeburg.
We will take advantage from more than 10 years of experience with organizing the MolSim school. Vivid pictures of previous editions of the MolSim course can be found here.
