MolSim2015
Location: CECAM-NL
Organisers
The MolSim-2015 school will provide training in the field of slmulation techniques for the study of many-particle (molecular) systems. It targets doctoral ad post-doctoral researchers, and advanced master students, who want to learn these techniques to study topics in in physics, chemistry or biology. The content constitutes a recap of the statistical mechanics relevant for molecular simulation, and will subsequently cover basic and advanced simulation techniques. These including Monte Carlo, molecular dynamics, free energy calculations, rare events, coarse graining. The theory and techniques covered in the lectures will be illustrated by illustrative examples of present day research.
The school wil have as special topics "Monte Carlo methods in electronic structure calculations, and "self-assembly of colloidal systems". These will be covered experts in the field, of whom Marjolein Dijkstra (Utrecht University, NL) confirmed.
The school is an integrated program of lectures and hands-on exercises. The book ``Understanding Molecular Simulation'' by Frenkel and Smit will provide the basis of the lectures. This will be supplemented by handouts and copies of the lecture slides.
Hands-on computer exercises are an essential part of the school and will allow the participants to apply the theory of the lectures in practice, using specially designed examples. The exercises classes will be tutored by experienced PhD, postdoctoral and staff researchers.
There is ample experience in practical aspects of the organizing the course for up to 100 participants. Dedicated computer-class rooms and lectures rooms will be provided by the local institutions in Amsterdam. Special hotel arrangements with discount rates are available.
We will take advantage from over 10 years of experience with organizing the MolSim school. Vivid pictures of previous editions of the MolSim course can be found at http://molsim.chem.uva.nl/molsim2014/index.html .
